Congratulations to Don Bustos, Farmer and Co-Director of American Friends Service Committee, and recent recipient of a James Beard Foundation Leadership Award! Don was honored for his work in support of farmers’ rights and education, and efforts to include farmers of color in the national food movement.
Don describes his farm in a letter to CWK students as part of our Salad Tasting Lesson:
“Santa Cruz Farms has been in our family for generations. We grow some of the same crops that were grown here two hundred years ago, including corn, beans, and squash. We also grow several kinds of salad greens (lettuces), radishes, tomatoes, chile, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, and a lot more veggies. We sell some of our produce to schools.”
