Like all non-profits, we are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Cooking with Kids Advisory Board is comprised of former board directors and other community members and experts. We are grateful to these volunteers in our community for championing the mission of Cooking with Kids!

In February 2013, Charles opened Bouche Bistro in Santa Fe, which has garnered substantial acclaim and press, including Travel and Leisure Magazine’s “Top Ten French Restaurants in the U.S.” In August of 2017, Charles sold Bouche to NM Fine Dining, a restaurant development group based in Santa Fe. Charles has stayed on with NMFD as Consultant, spearheading the development of two new projects, the Modern Southwestern Maize Restaurant and Trattoria A Mano, which features freshly-made pasta nightly. NM Fine Dining has several new projects in the works, including the revival of the iconic Bobcat Bite, on the outskirts of Santa Fe.
When not developing new dining opportunities for Santa Fe locals, Charles cooks with his wife and children, enjoys an active lifestyle of hiking and yoga, and travels the world seeking new flavors and ideas.

Around three decades ago, Montoya returned to New Mexico, facing a heartbreaking situation as three of his partners fell victim to HIV/AIDS. While back in his home state, he turned his focus towards addressing pressing social and community issues. His initiatives led to the establishment of various impactful organizations, including Espanola HELPS (HIV Education Longevity Prevention and Support), La Tierra Montessori School of the Arts and Sciences, Espanola Pathways Homeless Shelter - the first homeless shelter in northern NM, and Moving Arts Espanola, which received the 2019 CNN Hero award.
In 2020, Montoya achieved another significant milestone by being elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives, representing district 40 in rural northern NM. His election marked a historic moment as he became the first openly gay and HIV+ positive member of the body.
Since then, Montoya has emerged as a prominent rural advocate in New Mexico, spearheading landmark legislation to bridge the gap between rural and urban communities, striving to bring positive change and equity throughout the state.
