Salsa Roja

Enjoy this simple blended salsa served on top of these delicious and filling pupusas and a special pickled slaw called curtido.


  • 4 tomatoes, diced
  • ¼ onion, diced
  • 1 jalapeño, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil


  1. Place all ingredients except the vegetable oil into blender and blend until smooth. If needed, add up to ¼ cup of water to help blend.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Add salsa mixture and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
