Farmers in the Schools

Local farmers share their knowledge and passion about growing and eating locally grown fruits and vegetables through the Cooking with Kids Farmers in the Schools program. Farmers bring their freshly-harvested produce – tomatoes on the vine, squash blossoms, or the branches of an apricot tree. They may demonstrate how to cook their vegetables and fruits, or explain how root vegetables grow. Participating farmers really get kids interested in where their food comes from!

Locally Grown Produce in the Classroom

Cooking with Kids purchases locally grown produce for fruit and vegetable tastings and cooking classes whenever possible. Cooking with Kids supports Farm to School efforts by purchasing fresh, locally grown apples, cabbage, carrots, grapes, melons, pea shoots, potatoes, salad greens, spinach, sunflower sprouts, and tomatoes. This provides students with fresh, delicious foods and supports family farms, the local economy, and sustainable agriculture practices.
