James Beard Foundation and Food Tank’s “Good Food Org Guide”
November 6, 2014: Cooking with Kids is honored to be included in the “Good Food Org Guide,” highlighting nonprofit organizations that are doing exemplary work in the United States in the areas of food and agriculture, nutrition and health, hunger and obesity, and food justice. The James Beard Foundation and Food Tank, along with a prestigious advisory group of food system experts, developed the first annual “Good Food Org Guide.” Cooking with Kids is one of six New Mexico nonprofits highlighted, among the 400 other national and local organizations.
IACP Culinary Youth Advocate of the Year
April 9, 2013: Cooking with Kids was honored to be named “Culinary Youth Advocate of the Year,” an International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) Award of Excellence. The award was presented at the annual IACP conference in San Francisco. IACP Awards of Excellence recognize extraordinary contributions and commitments to the culinary field.
Lynn Walters TEDx talk: “Empowering Children to Make Healthy Food Choices”
November 3, 2012: Cooking with Kids Founder Lynn Walters was invited to present at TEDxAcequia Madre, at the Santa Fe Institute of Art and Design. Her TED talk, “Empowering Children to Make Healthy Food Choices,” can be viewed on the CWK Healthy Futures Blog.
Jamie Oliver’s Best School Lunch
January 12, 2012: Cooking with Kids’ Green & White Fettuccine with Tomato Basil Sauce and Green Salad was voted in to the top 10 best lunches on Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution School Lunch Photo Wall and went on to be picked by Jamie and his team as the best school lunch from last semester! First Lady Obama’s “Recipes for Healthy Kids”
June 15, 2011: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the winners in First Lady Michelle Obama’s Recipes for Healthy Kids competition, a national contest to promote healthy eating among children.
We are proud that Sweeney Elementary School’s Lentils of the Southwest is a second place winner! Cooking with Kids’ staff worked with chef Rocky Durham and students from Sandra Sena’s 5th grade class to develop this delicious recipe for Lentils of the Southwest (aka Sweeney Cougar Power Lentils!)
“Chefs Move to Schools” Launch at the White House
June 4, 2010: Santa Fe Public Schools is pleased to announce that a local program and a longstanding partner of most elementary schools in SFPS will be joining the launch of First Lady Michelle Obama’s newest “Let’s Move” initiative, “Chefs Move to Schools” at the White House, this Friday, June 4. Representing Cooking with Kids and Santa Fe will be Cooking with Kids Community Liaison Anna Farrier and Cooking with Kids Super Chefs Marianne Deery (New Mexico State Chef), Kim Müller (Real Food Nation), and Fernando Olea (Epazote Restaurant). Santa Fe Community Foundation Piñon Award
September 15, 2009: The Santa Fe Community Foundation awarded CWK with the 2009 Manual Luján, Sr. Award for Outstanding Service in Education. Often called “the Academy Awards for Nonprofits,” the Piñon Awards were established in 1987 and are the only honor reserved exclusively for nonprofit organizations in Santa Fe, New Mexico. US Dept of Health and Human Services “Innovation in Prevention” Award
November 27, 2007: Santa Fe’s Cooking with Kids, Inc. was chosen as the national non-profit Innovation in Prevention Award winner by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for its efforts in promoting healthy lifestyles in communities. “Cooking with Kids is an example of how health education for children can be interesting and effective,” HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt said. “The program’s approach to helping children make healthy food choices will provide a strong foundation throughout their entire lives.”
USDA’s LINC Award (Leadership, Innovation, and Nutrition Collaboration)
September 14, 2005: Cooking with Kids was honored with the national LINC Award recognizing Leadership, Innovation, and Nutrition Collaboration from USDA Food and Nutrition Services in the category of Partnerships and Collaborations. This award is for projects that use collaborative methods and integrated approaches in planning, developing, and delivering nutrition education involving multiple FNS programs.
